There are a couple of hotels in Preston. Country Trails & Inn is on the north side of town and is good. There is also the Trailhead Inn which is next to the Root River trail and looks adequate, although I've never stayed there. The town has a grocery store and one or two restaurants, although the best one is at the top of a really, really steep climb north of town. The Forestville area is about 14 miles away. The Old Barn campground and resort are about 10 miles east of Preston and is on the Root River Trail. They have a big campground and restaurant and a hostel. Never stayed there but ridden by it a lot. (For those who know the area, it's the resort next to the big rock cut west of Lanesboro on the Root River trail.)
