Leather is animal skin, yes. But the tanning process (Tannins bind to the 
collagen proteins in the hide and coat them causing them to become less 
water-soluble, and more resistant to bacterial attack.*) heating, 
stretching, shaping the skin into the shape of a saddle, then several 
ounces of waterproof goop applied to the surface and rubbed in, have 
combined to make your Brooks saddle nearly as inert and impermeable to air 
as any number of unnamed vinyl saddles. That's not to say that Brooks 
aren't great saddles for their intended uses. But to say they "breathe" 
defies logic.
