At close to 44 in age, I too have grown less enamored of drop bars. I still
have them on one old Motobecane, but I hardly ride it. When I tried
mustaches, I was never terribly comfortable. Short distances and around
town were fine, but anything longer and my wrists started getting numb. I
do still have them on one bike, but I actually flipped them over and
installed them upside down, like kind of micro albatross bars.

But the bars I ride the most these days are my Boscoe bars on my atlantis.
They make it look like a beach cruiser, but it's amazingly comfortable and
there are least three very comfortable positions: very upright at the end
of the bars; a bit forward, but still upright on the curve down, and
stretched out but comfy next to the stem, roughly the same as the tops on
drops.

But you do need an insanely long stem with Boscoes. As other have said, try
what you have first and experiment with all sorts of heights and angles.
There's no orthodoxy when it comes to bars.
