Eric -- always good to hear (and see photos) of mileage put on the Motobecane.

Question: how do you find the Motobecane handles compared to your
Quickbeam and to any other Rivendell you may have? This information
will do more than assuage a curiosity, since I remember ("in my
bones") how the M handled, so it is a very concrete point of
reference.

My own comparison with my two customs is that the M handled nicely,
but was slightly more twitchy than the Rivs, which to my mind are very
stable but turn "intuitively" when your lean. OTOH, with the same
length of stays -- ~45 to end of dropout -- the M handled heavy rear
loads much better than the one Riv that I've used for carrying things.

I had thought of keeping the M to build up as a gofast derailleur
bike, after getting it painted, but recently I've come into the
excessively generous offer of a 58 cm Ram -- from a very gracious
listmember -- so I am glad I passed it on. This Ram project is very
much long term, given my (absent) cash flow situation, but I dream of
building it up as either a 1XX or, more likely, a wide range double (I
have one Pro 5 Vis crankset remaining, and a very generously donated,
new, 26 t ring) with a nice but old school tub wheelset on which I can
use one of my collection of 5 and 6 speed fws.
