First, thanks very much for all the offers. Before deciding, I have a
question.

I've been offered a set of NIP Sunrace friction thumbies and my own
inclination is to install these with separate V brake levers. The recipient
of the bike would have to learn friction, but I can't see that it would be
much harder than to learn how to use the very imperfectly shifting twist
grips in question.

I've also been offered seven and eight speed twist grip shifters (sans
brake levers, I think). I would guess that an 8 would work as well as a
seven, given that the seven required overshifting (stupid bike shop set up
the rd with a too short and slightly kinked housing over the rear axle;
fixed that, but shifting still a bit hit or miss.

So: have any of you used the Sunrace friction thumbies? Can you tell me how
easy they are to shift a 7 sp Megarange fw and a standard triple?

Photos here, in case they help.

Many thanks to all again.
