I went with two other Rivendell-aware riding buddies and had a blast working through the bargains and chatting with other friends whom I've not seen in person for a while (e.g., Manny A).
*Best score: *8 pieces of Wooly Warm baselayers. At $5 a piece, it felt like stealing. Sure, they were all XS and I'm 5'10", but the wife was very happy so I didn't need to do too much explaining for... *Coolest scores I don't actually need: *A NOS Atlantis frameset. Yup, I was the other guy lugging around an Atlantis frameset. They sold at least 2 Atlantis framesets and 1 almost-complete bike that day. The old I picked up was one of the early Toyos and there were some paint chips and other superficial marks (can't be beausage since it actually hasn't been used), but at the price they were asking, I *had* to scrounge up the cash. It was at least the 3rd time that a discounted Atlantis knocked. The first was a barely used one from Box Dog Bikes in SF. I saw the online ad and hurried over during my lunchtime. I almost crashed into another gentleman going through the BDB door but being gentlemen, we proceeded to invite the other to go first. He eventually did but he also *bought that Atlantis! *Oh well. The second time was at another Riv garage sale. A bit of hesitation and it was sold to another gentleman who was just slightly less undecided. I suppose the third time's a charm so now an Atlantis shares stable space with my commuter LHT. *Coolest score I actually need: *SP dynamo hubs for $20 each. Just in time as the runtime of my old Dinotte lights are getting mighty short. I can't even run the light on high anymore as the current draw depresses the battery voltage so much the light thinks we're out of power. I'll need to build the wheel and buy a compatible light so this will be a month-long project.
