They are ancient footpaths of the dwarves who once used the volcanic fires of Mt. Diablo to forge non-oversize chrome moly steel tubes. Actually they are trails in Mt Diablo State Park, intended for hikers, walkers, and horses that leave stinky piles of dung. That particular trail is one of the few bits of single track that is legal for bikes. Most of the single track is off limits to bikes.
