cyclocross. Will try the 38/24 out for a while first before sending, but
that's the one I want.

A listmember has generously offered 5 9-sp spacers; still nead 11 more ....
One defect (every gearing arrangement is a compromise) of what is basically
a 1X8 is that, in order to get the cruising cogs in the middle of the
cassette, I have to space them out from the end with more small cogs than I
really need for real world riding -- eg, to get the 15 and 16 in the #4 and
#5 places, I must use a 12, 13 and 14 in the first places, and I don't
really need the 12. Since I like close gaps between say 60" and 75" -- 80",
this means that everything smaller than the 65" has to be distributed over
just three cogs, this with the 8 speed cassette. One more would break this
25" gap down very nicely, instead of 18-21-26, say 18-20-24-30. (Wake up,
screed* is finished.)
