I tried those knee savers once to try to fix an ITB issue... they made it
too wide. I'm happiest with a Q around 170 mm so triple cranks just feel
right. But that wasn't what was causing my ITB issue I found out. I went
to a Chiropractor (a long time ago) who specialized in cyclists when I was
having ITB issues. He said I was sitting to far forward and my hip angle
was not right. So now all my bikes now have 72d seat tubes and 25-30 mm
setback seat posts to get the right hip angle that eliminates the ITB
problem. That solved it.

a good bike fitter may find your issue, saving you years of pain.
