Yes, I'm planning to try something similar with 1/4-inch minicell foam - 
can get a 2' square sheet for about $5.  It will also also insulate it if I 
want to keep something cool.  But also interested in improving the 
weathering.  Last time we got caught in the rain, I had just my front bag 
mounted, and it got pretty soggy.  A small waxed canvas bag hanging on my 
stem that I use for cell phone and keys didn't get wet at all, which was of 
course good for the cell phone.
