I gave up on "sports drinks" long ago. On long rides, I'll usually carry a
bottle of water and a bottle of strong-as-death Irish breakfast tea.
Usually, for rides under 2 hours, I won't carry anything at all unless it
is really nasty hot and humid. Instead of goo-packs, I like apples or
sectioned oranges or somesuch. My goo-pack imbibing friends seem to like it
when I carry fresh fruit, too :)
