We get a few tourists in Seattle from time to time, too. Many from
Japan and points west. They can often be entertaining to watch taking
pictures of the rain, posing with transients and totem poles in
Pioneer Square... but mostly just wandering out into traffic. They
stick out like sore thumbs because Seattleites are notorious about
crossing with the light. You get used to it, but if I'm feeling
especially misanthropic (it happens; I blame the rain), I just avoid
those parts of town where they congregate, even if they are mostly
pretty nice. I'm sure I was a clueless yob when I was traveling the
low countries in my 20s on my old Rockhopper...
