The saddle roll I ordered on Etsy came today and is hanging from the back a Brooks B17 as we speak. (Well, as I type, anyway) Some 1st impressions.
High quality materials. heavy waxed canvas main body, lighter sides. Thick good quality leather straps. Way too many heavy brass rivets. Good sewing. Good quality buckles. Nice blinky strap. Very reasonable price for the materials, workmanship and appearance. The straps are almost too thick to get through the Brooks saddle loops. They are too thick to use on other saddles with smaller loops. The bag opens to impressive size, but the straps are too short to make use of that added space. There are all sorts of strap holes you can't get to or use on the back side of the bag You can't easily change straps to a longer length because of the aforementioned rivets. There is a transverse strap intended to go around the seat rails in case there are no bag loops. It should be used even if you have seat loops or the buckle will clatter. Unfortunately it is not long enough to reach around a pair of Brooks B17 seat rails. I have mine tied off to just one rail to prevent buckle clinking. It hangs well and back far enough that banging into the rider's legs is not an issue. We'll see how it does after a couple of rides.. I appreciate the lead on the outfit, who I had not heard of before seeing a post here on the panniers thread.
