Don't get me wrong, there are v-brakes on my Sam because I put them there. Like Patrick, I have found cantis to be difficult. Don't know if that's the brakes or my limited wrenching skills, but there it is.
To me, v-brakes and 26" wheels = MTB, calipers and 700c = road bike. Doesn't mean anything more than red wine with meat and white with fish. Just another rule made to be broken when circumstances warrant. Brakes are there to stop the bike, and the v-s to the job. And my longboards fit nicely too.
