I would first make sure there's no bird caught in your derailleur cage... :)
Seriously, are your gears indexed? If so, is the chain properly seated (centered) on the cogs when you hear the chirping? Can you micro-adjust the shifter/cable to see if this eliminates it? Also, do any of your cassette/freewheel cogs show excessive wear/deformity? The list of possibilities should be short...
