Greetings, fellow RBW forumites. My slightly too small RB-1 is no longer the right bike for me. I've had the frame and fork since 1995 or so. The seat tube measures 56cm, center to top. The top tube is more like 56.5, measured center to center. Head angle is about 73.5˚ and the seat angle is 73˚. The is one of the RB-1s that came with the Ritchey-designed open crown fork. A beautiful piece of steel.
This particular year of RB-1 is made of super light, heat treated Ishiwata cromo: 019E, 022E, and 024E. It has a sprightly, springy ride, and really wants to be hammered. I have ridden this bike A LOT, but have always tried to take good care of it. It was my commuter for a little while, though, and it received a couple of dents and scratches during this stage in its life. There's a shallow dent on the down tube. You can see it in the Bridgestone decal in the jpeg below. There's another, smaller dent on the left side of the top tube, but it didn't show up well in my photo. There's also a to-the-metal scratch on the right seat stay, that hasn't damaged the metal and hasn't rusted much. There is also an inch and a half or so, shallow scratch in the paint on the right side of the top tube. It's almost down to the primer. There are numerous, small areas of chipped paint, but most go down only to the primer. This bike is probably a good candidate for a repaint. Despite the cosmetic flaws it rides really really nicely, and the hodge podged parts actually work well together. The hubs, rear derailleur, cranks are Shimano 600. Front derailleur is Shimano 105. Current brakes are Tektro R530s (IIRC.) I'll include the Shimano 600 sidepulls that I used to have on the bike. Brake levers are non-aero Dia Compe Gran Compe. Shifters are an, uh, interesting mix of one Suntour barcon for the rear, and one Suntour downtube shifter for the front. It works fine that way. The wheels are Shimano 600 hubs laced via 14 gauge DTs to Mavic MA2 rims. These are shod with Panaracer Pasela 28s--the biggest tires I could reasonably fit on this bike. Seatpost is an old American Classic. Cages are also American Classic. The Brooks saddle is not included. Headset is a Stronglight Delta, with sealed needle bearings. I never had a 31mm lock nut wrench, so the lock nut is a little chewed. Still stays tight, though. Current stem and bars are a Nitto Moustache in a Dirt Drop 80mm stem. The bike handles great with this setup, however. $500 Local list folks can see the bike at its present location at RBW HQ, in Wallnut Creek.
