I toured in 2011 and 2009 in the PNW and me and my buddy used his Steri-pen a bunch with no issues. I keep meaning to get one for myself but most of the time when I go bike camping I make sure to have water and generally know where I can refill. I'll probably buy one this year with my REI dividend.
