How many is too many bike parts?

I mean some of these part may disappear from availability. 
True?

I'm not sure one can have too many bike parts.
After all, stuff happens. Plus it is a frugal endeavor compared to, say, 
collecting Ferraris.
True?

I learned this train of thought by reading the great writings of Dr. Douglas 
Brooks.
The Dr. is a smart fella, he knows bikes along with a bunch of stuff.
