All I can say is that I tried a set of Tektros on there first, and the 
spacing of the posts is too narrow for them. Actually, the old Dia-compes 
work and feel really good - probably even better with modern pads, which I 
just didn't get to. I had a set of DC 980s on another bike for a while, and 
I liked those too. Somewhere there must be a data-base or rules regarding 
post spacing and cantilever types that would be handy here - kind of a 
go/no-go thing. Nothing wrong with 27" wheels by the way - especially if 
you can live without fenders, although with the current 700c wheels, this 
bike could take 35s, maybe even 37s without too much trouble. I'm sure 
others here have had more experience with this than I have and will weigh 
in accordingly.
