It really depends upon the thickness of the leather on the saddle, the
"dryness" of the leather and how much time you want to spend on the project.

If it is a rock-hard, but not dried out saddle, I'd probably just use the
proofride or Obenauf.  If the leather is showing open, dried pores, then a
little, light oil might be a good first step.

It's very tough to get the oil out if you overdo it, so my procedure on
older saddles has been to ride them a bit first, then fine tune it with the
treatments.  If you have some knowledgeable shoe repair place, you might
show it to them - explaining that you don't want it to soften too much so
that it starts to hammock under your weight.

I had an older B17 which only needed a touch of Proofride, while another
saddle is so thick I think it would swallow a bottle of neatsfoot oil and
not be impacted.
