THANKS for all the replies, it sounds like everyone is pretty much on the same page.
Shimano is still in the running, but I don't need to ask any advice on them :-) I have some Phil Wood cassette hubs, so don't mind a little ratchet, but the Hopes seem really loud from what I've read. Friends have CKs so I've heard those in person. Whites are an unknown, so glad to hear the positive responses. I want real good seals for off-road use, which wasn't mentioned yet. Does White have multiple seals? Must say, Shimano has that aspect down! In case anyone is wondering, CKs are made in Portland OR, White in Petaluma (Bay Area) CA and the Hopes in the UK.
