It's been awhile since I've read that article (or variations thereof). Interesting that it doesn't ring as true now as it did even five years ago. Of the newish bikes I see in my neighborhood now, most (anecdotally) are some kind of entry-level 'hybrid' (hate that term, but the bikes are what most cyclists should be riding) or Surly Cross-check/LHT, which embody many of the features advocated by Grant over the years. I credit Grant and some other influential bike people, as well as (maybe) a diminishing interest in wannabe racing post-Lance.
