Rob,
Actually, from your picture, your rings don't appear that worn. The
different heights of the teeth is a function of the indexed shifting,
not wear. A worn ring will exhibit an elongated valley area, usually
also with a sloped surface on the tension side of the ring. Your
valleys still appear to have a nice "U" shape.
If you have some concerns about wear, I'd start with the chain. 12
links should measure exactly 12". As the chain wears it will
"stretch" (get longer). When the 12 links measure 12 1/16" it's time
to replace the chain. If the chain has "stretched" more than that it
may have damaged your chainrings and/or cassette.
If your chain is worn, but not too badly, replace it, then check for
skipping. If there is no skipping with the new chain you are
probably in good shape. If you have skipping, try to narrow down
under what conditions it skips. If it only skips while in your
middle ring, then your middle ring is worn. If it only skips while
on, say your 14 tooth cog in the rear, then it's time for a new cassette.
Sheldon Brown has a good article on drivetrain wear at
