There have been recent threads here about puncture proofing tires. I
want to warn y'all about Mr Tuffys. Listen and heed:

My new Ken Rogers felt disappointingly slow; I, saddened, put that
down to the drag of a third wheel -- until, yesterday, quads buring
from pushing the 71" against a slight wind, I had a Eureka moment.
When I arrived home I stripped tires from wheels and, sure enough,
there were satanic Mr Tuffys in each tire. I immediately removed the
things and exorcised my garage, and Lo! And Behold! the trike is
simply transformed. Where before the 45X19 (64") was the most
comfortable for my quads on flat, now the bike is sprightly and easy
to push in the 45X17 (71") -- it feels (apart from turns and camber)
like a light-tubed road bike.

Damn Mr Tuffys! I long ago ditched them from my bicycles and I had
forgotten how much they harm the ride. Note that the trike's tires are
nothing fancy -- old (I assume 20 years old; the trike -- probably 10
years older than that -- was refurbished and repainted circa 1990) IRC
wire beads. I hope eventually to have some nice, light wheels built up
with, perhaps, some of Compass BIcycle's nice, 26 mm or 28 mm
free-rolling tires.
