I've spent a lot of time in Boonville, and have ridden in the area a lot. Here
are some thoughts:

If you're in Boonville, you basically have the choice of riding on Hwy 128
(toward either the coast or Cloverdale) or heading over the coast range
(Mountain View Road, Fish Rock Road, etc.). Riding on Hwy 128 is the easier
choice. Mt. View Rd will eventually take you to the ocean, but it would be an
epic trip--wicked steep and lacking any type of services (ditto for Fish Rock
Rd).

If you're riding on 128, the easier route (big rollers mostly) is toward the
ocean. It's about 25 miles to the coast from Boonville, and along the way
you'll ride through the Navarro Redwoods state park--very pretty. Traffic
isn't too bad, and there's a wide shoulder in most places. Go a little way up
the coast and you'll reach Albion, where there's a nice little store/deli that
makes good sandwiches.

Heading toward Cloverdale on 128 involves more hills, including some extended
8% grade sections.

Another alternative would be to ride on Hwy 128 toward the ocean, then take
Flynn Creek Rd to Comptche, and from there turn left and head for the coast.
That would be about a 60-mile round trip from Boonville. You could also head
over the mountains to Ukiah, but that involves some significant climbing and
several miles of 10-11% grade.

There are a number of wineries along 128, specializing in Pinot Noir. You can
find services in Philo (limited) and Navarro (one store that's usually open
during the day).
