Wednesday was a day off, and I finally made time this summer for my favorite local climb. It is Land's End Road to the southeast of Grand Junction. There are several lovely mixed surface rides in the area, this one being the most dramatic. I bought the Legolas cross bike for these rides. It is some 18 miles one way with about 4000 ft of climbing to just below 10,000 ft. In spite of the big elevation gain, the ride is fairly gentle. The Legolas has 36/50 (TA) chainrings and the 12-36 cassette that Rivendell sells http://www.rivbike.com/products/show/cassettes/13-086 For the most part I used a 36X28or32 gear for the long dirt portion. It was a lovely day. I snapped just a few photos with my phone. Go left from this link to see the progression to the top http://www.flickr.com/photos/79695460@N00/6102747209/in/photostream/
