Kelly:

Great idea; I would love to join, but I'll be touring New England in
October.

BTW last summer (as part of its Performance Improvement Plan) Amtrak
had pledged to provide roll-on/roll-off bicycle service on the Capital
Limited train (between DC and Pittsburgh) by June 2011... I contacted
Amtrak customer service a few weeks ago and asked when they would
begin this service offering, and (not surprisingly) they indicated
they had no knowledge of such a service offering... I cited their PIP
document (which is available online), but the rep pleaded ignorance.

I hope this isn't just more cheap talk from Amtrak... Having this
train service would make traveling the Allegheny Passage and C&O
trails by bicycle much more attractive (by essentially eliminating the
need for a dedicated shuttle).

I'll let you know if I here an update on this.
