Okey - dokey.... Here's what seems to be the deal. Google migrated the groups over to a new format, and is semi-redirecting things to that new location. It seems to load much faster if you go directly to the new "Forums" fomat, which can be found here:

I liked the older way too, but then again, I was just used to it. In a couple weeks, you'll probably never miss it. 2) Yes, it makes you reestablish your google ID connections, no longer using your previous image or moniker. No, I don't know why. If this vexes you, please direct your wrath to the folks at google, rather than share it with the group. 3) The discussion can still be enjoyed via email, rather than the site.
