I just took a 21 mile more-or-less N/S out and back on the gofast and
thanks to an annoying wind "NW 21 g to 29" spent 2 or 3 of the
outbound 10.5 in the hooks and six or seven of the return miles in the
hooks, and I was fine and felt aero and powerful. Now I admit that the
bars as presently situated are at the low limit for my neck and that
the bike is set up to be comfortable for short (<= 35 mile) rides, but
then again I don't usually plan on riding 10 miles at a stretch in the
hooks, either.

I think I do want a bit more extension -- I feel as if power drops off
a bit when I move from hooks to hoods, unless I deliberately fold my
elbows when on the hoods; perhaps a switch to those Maes Parallel bars
(115/135 versus 95/140) with the current 8 cm Nitto stems will do? Or,
OTOH, the current 42 cm 185s with new 9 cm stems? I'd probably raise
the bars a cm or so from the current 4 to 5 below -- or maybe not. Or
perhaps just substitute some nice Cane Creek levers for the old Dura
Aces, for their longer hoods?

Before I make any changes, I must ride the Herse (1 cm below) and
compare regularly with the Rivs.
