Greg,

The original model of the Rivendell Road Standard has some rather
close clearances that limits choices of fenders and tires
combinations. The catalogs that Rivendell published at the time
indicated that the bike would accommodate 700x32C tires with fenders
and up to 700x35C without. If anyone could fit a true 700x32C tire
with fenders, I'd like to see it!

I have Honjo hammered finish 45mm fenders mounted on the bike and I'm
using the 700x28C Pasela tire. This provides sufficient clearance,
but it's certainly not generous. The most critical dimension is the
height of the brake bridge on the rear, its meant to accommodate a
short-reach (not standard-reach) brake like the SunTour Superbe Pro
sidepulls that I've fitted on the bike- Max reach 49mm.
