Thanks, Mark • SET OF TWO SCHWALBE BIG APPLE 26 X 2.0 TIRES. These came on a bike I purchased in Holland last month. They have about 15 miles of use, and are in perfect condition. $40 for both tires. • SET OF TWO CONTINENTAL SPORT CONACT 700 X 32C TIRES. These also came on a bike I purchased in Holland last month. Sport contact tires have puncture protection, but are relatively high performance—similar to Gatorskins but wider and more comfortable. Suitable as a fast commuter tire, light touring tire or for use on tandems. About 5 miles of use, perfect condition. $35 for both tires. • BROOKS B67S (ladies) SADDLE, HONEY COLOR. Latest version, purchased in 2009, slightly broken in and lightly used, treated with Brooks Profide. This saddle is in outstanding condition—it was specifically chosen as the best example from a handful of B67S saddles, and has absolutely perfect leather—much thicker than the norm on Brooks sprung saddles. Ideal for bikes with upright bars, perfect for stoker use on tandems. $65. • DINOTTE 200L AA S LED HEADLIGHT WITH DINOTTE CHARGER, TWO SETS OF NIMH BATTERIES, HELMET MOUNT, HANDLEBAR MOUNT, BATTERY POUCH, AND TWO BATTERY MODULES. Like new condition, battery sets are new. This is an ideal light to bring along on a ride if there’s a chance that you might need to ride in the dark. It’s sufficient for fast road riding, has about five hours of capacity on high output, is extremely lightweight and runs on standard AA batteries. $99. • SHIMANO SWEET 16 WHEEL SET FOR SANTANA TANDEM, The most current version, purchased new in late 2008. A total of just under 800 miles of use. The wheels were professionally re-tensioned after 300 miles, as recommended by Santana, and have been 100 percent trouble free. Perfect condition. Wheels come with Continental Gatorskin 700x28c tires, Continental tubes, Velo Plugs (which replace the rim strips, are more durable and lighter in weight), two spare spokes (Sweet 16 spokes sell for $10 each), along a Park SW-14 shop spoke wrench for Shimano wheels. Shimano, unlike Mavic, uses decorative stickers rather than anodizing the rim, which look a bit tacky so we removed the stickers. We’ve found that Sweet 16’s are about 5-7 percent faster than our 40 spoke Phil Wood tandem wheels, and much more rapid in acceleration and descents. Compared to other low spoke count, high- performance tandem wheels, Sweet 16’s are probably the most durable— rear axle spacing is 160mm. $700. • SKS CHROMOPLASTIC P60 EUROPEAN FENDERS FOR 26” WHEELS WITH SKS MUDFLAPS. These also came on a one of the bikes that I just purchased in Holland. They are significantly different from the SKS fenders sold in the U.S. in being much lighter in weight, having a different fender stay mounting system, coming with mud flaps, and being available in 60mm width—which fits Schwalbe Big Apple tires in 26x2 perfectly. Used for about 15 miles. $22. • PLANET BIKE PROTÉGÉ WIRELESS COMPUTER WITH ALL HARDWARE. Used but in perfect condition. $22. • VELO-ORANGE LOW DOWN MACHINED ALUMINUM TYPE 1 LIGHT MOUNT TO REPLACE WHEEL QUICK RELEASE NUT. An elegant solution for adding a light (or an additional light) to the front or rear of a bike for brevets or other use at night. Two available, both are new. $15 each • JANDD MOUNTAIN WEDGE III WITH CUSTOM MOUNT FOR DINOTTE TAIL LIGHT. This is one of the lesser-known, but extremely well-designed large seat packs, for use on brevets, centuries or other long rides. Expandable, 6-7.5 liter capacity, no sway whatsoever because it uses two elastic stays that attach to the rear dropouts. Like new condition —has never been used. $23. • B&B GEAR KINESIS TOP TUBE BREVET BAG WITH FOOD TRAY. 55 cu. in. capacity. This top tube bag is tall and narrow, has a pocket specifically designed to hold a U.S. brevet card, an optional plastic tray for snacks. For riders who travel light, this is all that’s needed for a century or mid-length brevet. Like new condition—has never been used. $18. • SHIMANO LEFT SIDE BOTTOM BRACKET CUPS TO FIT THE UN53 BOTTOM BRACKET (WHICH COMES ON SURLY LHT’S) AND/OR ALL OTHER SHIMANO SQUARE AXLE BOTTOM BRACKETS. These cups are plastic, and it’s a good idea to replace them when doing bottom bracket work. Two available, one new, one installed but in perfect condition. $10 for both. • VELO ORANGE EXTENDED DROP FRONT BRAKE CABLE HANGER. Silver, near new condition. Makes cable management for center pull or canti brakes easier on smaller frames, and/or for those who use a second stem. Includes cable routing tube. $3. • BURLEY ALTERNATIVE TRAILER HITCH FOR 9.5mm SOLID AXLE—FITS SHIMANO INTERNAL GEAR HUBS. This is the hard to find, original alternative trailer hitch, which is much better designed than Burley’s current forged hitch. It bolts to the rear axle, has a pivot mechanism, and offers greater clearance from rear rack mounts. Used, in perfect condition. $16. • BURLEY ALTERNATIVE TRAILER HITCH FOR 10.5mm SOLID AXLE—FITS SRAM INTERNAL GEAR HUBS. This is the hard to find, original alternative trailer hitch, which is much better designed than Burley’s current forged hitch. It bolts to the rear axle, has a pivot mechanism, and offers greater clearance from rear rack mounts. Used, in perfect condition. $16. • AVID DIGIT 7 V BRAKE CALIPERS (FRONT AND REAR SET). These also came new on recent bike purchases from Holland. Used less than 15 miles, perfect condition. Digit 7 brakes are widely regarded as extremely effective, budget-priced brakes. We would keep them if not for having a number of Paul Motolites in inventory. Two sets of two brake calipers with hardware and pads, levers and cables not included. $25 for one front and one rear brake. • ERGON GC2 ERGONOMIC GRIPS WITH FORGED BAR ENDS FOR ROHLOFF, SRAM AND SHIMANO TWIST GRIPS. Also taken off a new bike. In Europe it’s common to use straight mountain bars on city and touring bikes with GC2 grips to add a comfortable, alternative hand position. Peter White has recently expounded on the benefits of this set up. Two sets of GC2 grips available (see below for compatible handlebars and stems), include bar end plugs, 22.2 handlebar diameter (mtb). $19 each set. • VAN NICHOLAS 6061 T6 DOUBLE BUTTED ALLOY STRAIGHT HANDLEBAR, 6 DEGREE BEND, 580MM WIDTH, POLISHED SILVER, 31.8MM CLAMP DIAMETER, 22.2mm bar diameter (mtb). Taken off a recent new bike purchase from Holland, these bars work perfectly with Ergon GC2 grips with bar ends. (For a compatible stem, see below.) Two available, $12 each. • VAN NICHOLAS 110MM ADJUSTABLE STEM, 1 1/8, 31.8 CLAMP DIAMETER, POLISHED SILVER. Perfect city bike stem for the handlebars listed above and with Ergon GC2 grips. Taken off a recent bicycle purchase from Holland. Two available. $10 each. • TTT FORGIE AIR-HARDENED, DOUBLE BUTTED AL 7075 T6 DROP HANDLEBAR, 26.0 CLAMP DIAMETER, 44CM WIDTH CENTER TO CENTER (46cm end to end) black anodized with grooves for shifting and brake cables. Near new condition, made in Italy, very light AND very strong. I’ve been using these bars on all of my bikes for the past few years. Some versions of this TTT bars are made in China—the versions made in Italy are higher quality. Retail price when available is about $40-90. Will sell for $25. • SHIMANO DEORE BR-M600 V BRAKE WITH KOOL STOP PADS AND TRAVEL AGENT (for use with STI or Ergo shifter/brake levers). Can be used front or rear. Polished silver, used but in excellent condition. Original equipment on our Santana Ti tandem. $8. • STAINLESS STEEL RISER BARS, 15 DEGREE SWEEP, 22.2 (MTB) DIAMETER, 61MM WIDTH, 25.4 CLAMP DIAMETER.
