I bought a bag of Tagua Nutwinks for each of my kids (daughter-7, and
son-9) for Christmas:

They rock. We've already had several sessions of game inventing and
competition. The material is amazing. You'd bet a dollar it was
plastic: like a heavy high quality plastic. They stand up to vigorous
winking (the long distance challenge that my son came up with is a
high leverage endeavor). I think tiddly winking is good for hand
strength and coordination, and there are never too many games you can
play with your kids that aren't a video game. I'll take them to my
next S24O too, maybe for a competition on who does dishes. $20 is
steep, but they are A) MUSA and B) $8 to charity and C) help add value
to rainforest trees that are being clearcut.
