I am planning to clean the drive train regularly. I cleaned it Saturday and it was a mess. Huge chunks of gloppy stuff flying off the cassette, caked on stuff scrapped off the derailleur cogs etc. Deep down I knew the cassette was shinny silver and not dull black but I didn't realize how shinny. I was also surprised to see the chain has shiny bits in it.
So...instead of the "whenever I think about it" schedule I will clean it "every so often".
