Someone on this list suggested I shim the steerer on my too small 1990 Fisher Sphinx so I can get the bars as high as on my Sam Hillborne, because there don't seem to be any tall 1 1/4" stems available. How would one actually go about doing that? Would this be solid enough for off-road use? Could a sleeve be brazed into the (steel) steerer to then accept a 1" quill? Is that the best option, or are there others?
