Cycling in Chiang Mai is indeed excellent. Great secondary road network with little traffic (and the occasional elephant crossing warning sign), beautiful countryside with small farms and rainforest, extensive still partly unpaved tertiary road network, and great single track on the 5500 foot mountain just outside of town, a 20 minute bike ride from my house.
And now that the temperatures have dropped all the way into the high 80s (and night time temps well into the 60s), it's even better. I encourage you all to come for a visit. We would be thrilled to show you around! Oh, and the food ain't bad around here, either.
