I forget which hub he had, but I helped a friend do this a few years ago. He got a string of lights from Ikea or somewhere and just wired them up. I said we have a 50-50 chance of getting the polarity right on the first try, which we did. Actually we had a 100% chance, as the generators are unrectified AC. Yeah, the lights blinked a lot at low speed. You could get rid of about half the blink with a trip to Radio Shack for one of these: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062580
