This will be somewhat tangential but related.
Now that the 'winter' has begun here in N. Calif. I've started riding my fendered Saluki. The rest of the year I'm pretty much on my Riv custom as I'm quite fond of it.

The Saluki has more wheel flop than the custom and I don't know (or really care) about what the trail numbers are
for the two bikes.

Anyway these days I'm riding the Saluki daily for my commute. I've noticed that it sort of (very subtly) dives into the turns.
It's no big deal, just different than the custom.

I vaguely recall reading about pneumatic trail in BQ. I started experimenting with the front tire pressure on the Saluki. Voila, reduced front tire pressure eliminates 'diving' into turns. Now the Saluki feels more similar to the custom but seems to have a somewhat greater natural turn radius.

All this stuff seems pretty subtle to me.
I get used to the bike I'm riding and love the ride of the various Rivendells I've tried. I'm even fond of my Trek Madone though it has become a bit of a hanger queen.

DougP and I traded bikes during a ride a few months back. His high-
trail Riv and my French style rando with super low trail. Both, IIRC,
with loaded front bags. The short version is that, while there were
differences, they were pretty minor, and both bikes were pleasant to
ride at speeds from 5 MPH to 40 MPH.

I put a bunch of effort into understanding geometry while learning
frame building, but that day more-or-less put the issue to bed for me.
Reading the trail debate can lead the reader to believe that it's
absolutely critical and that the wrong choice will have worse
consequences than failing third grade, but the reality is that, within
reason, you really do "get used to" just about any reasonable
geometry.

Which hopefully frees us up to talk about less contentious topics,
like religion or politics.
