I still shudder slightly, inwardly, at the thought of putting a Wald
on a nice Rivendell. I love them for beaters, but not for Rivs. It's
like attaching fenders to a $3500 custom with zip ties --- not right!
What about a nice wicker basket?

Me, I use Axiom Dutch panniers which are simple, big-mouthed and
capacious and simply drape over the rack.

But each to his or her own -- just my opinion, not a condemnation --
at most a deprecation.
