I've given serious thought to trying my Saddlesack Large in the front. My thought was to simply set it on top of my Nitto Mini/ Platrack assembly. To get an attach point for the leather straps that want to go through the saddle loops I was thinking about this piece:
http://www.benscycle.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9587 I chatted with m...@riv HQ about the idea and he pulled out that same nitto lamp holder piece and said he'd seen it done. For my Bombadil I might even choose to run an R-14 rear rack up front which has the right size loop for the slot in the Saddlesack Large. Then I started having such good luck just strapping stuff to the platrack up front that I didn't pursue the concept. It's still something I'd like to have in my repertoire of configuration options. My biggest concern is the dreaded trail factor. Velo Orange says that low trail is better for front loads, and Rivs are kind of high medium trail. It still would be worth a try, provided you are only out labor if it doesn't work out. If you spend $400 on racks and bags, hate it and want to get rid of everything, that would be a bummer.
