Have been loving my Sam for the past year, mostly on mixed pavement/ dirt rides, but hadn't taken it on any long truly twisty descends since the first month I had it, when I scared myself a bit due to severely under-inflated tires that gave that lovely "rolling sideways off the rim" sensation on the switchbacks.
Anywho, took the Sam up the mountain (Doi Suthep) yesterday, not all the way but from the valley at 1000ft to the Temple at 3500ft. Road is luxuriously wide with 2 lanes going up, 1 lane down, and a good shoulder (after all, the road also goes to the King's winter palace). :) So even stupid passers on the way up are extremely unlikely to end up in the downhill lane. With properly inflated tires this time (Jack Browns, 40psi front 45 rear) Sam was absolutely in his element. Best descending single I have ever ridden, only matched by my Ibis tandem. Now I haven't ridden all that many different bikes, but I used to have the last lugged steel Bianchi (Veloce, 1995) and a 1997 Indy Fab Planet-X. The Sam felt solid yet lively, and extremely predictable, allowing mid-curve adjustments easily from the hooks of the Noodles. What a joy! Gernot PS: I have a Nitto Mini on the front with a rattan basket, which was empty except for my rain jacket. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
