It does feel weird, but it's also my first time using half-step and my only bike with bar-end shifters, so it would feel weird anyway, and I have no reason to doubt that I'm capable of getting used to it. Since the shifters were seven speed accushift with a friction option and power ratchet for the front shifter, I had a good reason to switch shifters anyway, so that I could use the power ratchet on the rear derailleur and the pure friction setting for the front. I also use my right lever for the front brake on most of my bikes. I'm just a goofy fellow!
