I certainly wouldn't dispute Grant's observation that there are times when we need to compromise for the sake of economy, but when you don't have to, don't.
This summer I converted my Ram to a CD with an 11-28 cassette and then put the new Shimano 6700RD on there. It replaced a mid-range Centaur & triple set up that shifted very well. But this derailer is incredibly smooth and accurate. I'm glad I spent the money.
