Ha, I meant the "tale" to be illustrated in the photo by how different
two Atlantises can be.

But I'll bore you with the backstory since you're asking!

I bought the black 58cm (700c) Atlantis used, about 3 years ago. It
has seen many a configuration - from 32mm paselas to 2.1" nanoraptors,
from fenders/racks/baskets to nothing. Lots of bike-geekery fun has
been had.

This spring, I started looking for a 26" tourer to be used mainly on
dirt. I planned on doing a GDR trip this summer (but the universe had
other plans). After looking at many options, I was happy to discover
with my PBH of 85cm, I could fit the 56cm (26") atlantis.

If I could get so much versatility out of one Atlantis, I thought two
would be great. I realize I could have gone lighter with a Homer or
heavier with Bombadil, but the middle-of-the-road Atlantis suits me
well. And like I said, I wanted 26" wheels.

So I ordered my 56cm new. To dial it in before any big rides, I have
used it as my daily-driver with bags and racks on it, and a fairly
upright riding position. The 58cm is currently set up as the "fast"
bike, ie., for unloaded rides.

The 56cm feels like a mountain goat, the 58cm a horse.

The 56cm has Schwalbe Extremes 2.25". Although I purchased them for
being off the grid, I find they work well in the city too. They take
bumps really well of course, but they also don't feel slow. These big
fat 26" tires spin up/down quickly compared to my big fat 29" tires.

Yep - I borrowed the term "farkle" from motorcycling, meaning
"accessories". Its a combination of "function" and "sparkle" I think.
I must have learned it during my brief flirtation with motorcycling,
before I came back to my senses and stuck with bikes. :)
