I guess a rest was all that was needed... I have a sinus cold. I got a new 6mm bolt and just went and tightened the seatpost in place one more time. No issues and no slipping... I guess the original bolt was defective or too "soft". The new one seems to be harder.
Still wondering how it all happened... but now have confirmed that the Betty does indeed use a 26.6 seatpost. May try to get one with more setback...
