On the subject of top tubes, and shorter top tubes. Wasn't there an article in the reader once considering a road frame with a short top tube tentatively called the Aowyn? Does anyone know what issue? Also, as I recall, road standard frames, and the long low had the option of being built with a 1.5cm shorter top tube. Does that open the possibility of having another Waterford built frame geometry adjusted to suit a rider with a shorter reach. At a certain point a short stem and bits affect the ride too much.
