I'm aboard, riding my 62cm Romulus with a buddy on his Bleriot. WRT
the beer question, there's a beer garden at the Community College (and
everything else from showers to live music to a baked potato and
lasagna bar with TdF coverage in the cafeteria), and as Ryan calls
out, plenty of local options. Hope to see you all on the road or at
the halfway. After doing this ride year after year, I've concluded
that STP in one day is a challenge, and one worth doing, and STP in 2
days is more like a festival. It's a fun, relaxed ride, and well,
yes, there's a hill, but there's really just the one, and it's kind of
a nice change.

If you haven't camped at a community college with 6k cyclists before,
it's helpful to have earplugs at night, a headlamp for the morning, a
cap with a bill (it's hot and you'll be out and about), cash for the
vendors, flip-flops for locomotin', a bike lock in your luggage bag
(there's a bike corral, but it can be a bottleneck in the morning), a
spare key for the lock stashed in your bike bag or wallet just in case
you pack the other key in your luggage in the morning, throw the bag
onto the truck before breakfast, only to later understand that given
your order or operations error, your bike is locked, the key is in
your bag, your bag is on the truck buried under 2k other bags, and the
security guys don't carry bolt cutters (or so I've heard). Breakfast
opens at 4:00, and coffee runs out at 4:30 until they make more. And
finally, Team Parkinson's has a fantastic meal offering at the 3/4-way
point on Sunday, which eliminates the food line and provides healthy,
organic (vegans accomodated) options for a very fair donation.

Travel well, and say hey if you see us.

Frank
