I agree with David about Santana & CoMotion tire limits, but they do
make 26" versions that have better clearances.  The people who think
singles should have 23s also think doubles should have 28s.  But why
would you want to put 300+ lbs on two 28mm tires?  Davinci recommends
26" as stronger.  We went with 26"( x1.6 Marathonracers for comfort,
for all the dirt roads in VT, which we love to ride, and for ease of
packing when traveling., and for strength.  No regrets at all.  We
tried to think like GP in speking our tandem.  Comfort & sensible
gearing, durability along with inherent beauty beat out the last 2mph
of speed or lb of weight.
