Plan C:   Take the bike with you to the UK. Drop the fenders and mount up 
some big knobbies. Ride it on the trails - .it's off pavement performance 
 just might surprise you. If it doesn't, then sell or trade it.

FWIW, I've been discovering my Platypus to be nicely capable for 
non-technical mountain trails and gravel roads.
