Joe, your recommendations are amongst my favorite here…

I have well over $1500 invested.  This is definitely not a stock build.

So I think that’s a good trade value as a starting point.

Open to further suggestions or discussion.

I would recommend putting a value on the bike and being prepared to add that plus cash to a trade deal.

Ha! I nearly traded my Roadini frameset for a large Zip!

The beasauge was just barely threshold acceptable, but likely a repaint scenario down the road.

Then I found this frame.  Rare bird for sure.

That rarity of those big sizes in MB-1s took me down a rabbit hole leading to my big '91 MB-0 which was available in my size.

In retrospect I think I would have preferred the lugged frame and ridden it longer than I did my Zip.

Holy moly. These large MB-1s are so rare. I think you can count me as interested if you move toward a sale.

Super fun project, made possible in part, by readers like you.

I found this really nice original spec 1991, large (21.7”) MB-1 on CL. The seller still has a daily driver MB-2 and others.  He listed the MB-1 because it was in such good condition, he didn’t want to add any blemishes.  It’s by no means perfect. The frame arrived soon after, safe and sound (UPS has given me a surprise here and there lately).

I commenced with the replacement of every part except for the cranks and Suntour friction shifter.  I realize this is where many will stop reading.

So not for everyone, given it’s not all original. Definitely not my goal.  But I’m grateful to have found this frame, for the project, and for the health to ride it a bit.  It was a perfect distraction, while most of the country’s weather has been trash for riding.  But I never intended to keep it.

I hope to trade it for a 52 Clem, 58 Roaduno, or other budget Riv build (Roadini, Romulus, Rosco) in a large size.  Possibly a large canti Crust.

Thanks for reading, nearly all brand new or like new parts from Riv, Paul, Velocity, and VO.  Thanks to Vince at Riv for the drivetrain that “just works,” and Brian for wheel advice.

I have the full specs if interested, my PBH is 86/87.  I am located in Oklahoma City.

I will offer it to this group first for sale (if that’s okay) in the event no one wants to trade.

Pics on next post.

Best,

Drew
