I'm not sure such a beast exists, but I might buy a pair if they do: is there a decent (*) but cheap (**) tire with small knobs (***) that spreads out to no more than 38 mm in the 26"/559 bsd size?
Such tires would be for very occasional use on the '99 Joe gofast fixie to be used with the SA TF fixed 2 speed hub (direct/74" and 75%/55") for light-sand ditchbank riding -- our sandy surfaces firm up with cooler weather and it's fun taking a stripped down fixed gear on dirt -- I've used the 26 X 1.8" EL Naches Passes but they threatened to swell past 38 mm (they are labeled 1.8"/46 but new ones measured a swelling 38 +++ mm on 19 mm OW rims). (*) Decent: Doesn't ride as if you are pushing, weeping, through 6" of cold molasses, like some Avocets I've used. (**) Cheap: Half the price of the RH Naches Pass or no more than about $50 each. (***) Some tread, small knobs best; the Tioga Power Block would be nice but AFAIK it's available only in a 2"+ width. 38 mm max width, but I'd not want the tire to be much narrower than 38 mm. The bog standard fallback is the Pasela Protite 1.5" and that might do even if the tread is just a pretty pattern instead of a true traction surface, but before buying I'd like to hear if any 559 X 38 mm tire has wee knobs.
